While bitcoin’s rally continues, more and more individuals and companies use bitcoin for a variety of things. This time, it’s to pay salaries.
The Japanese company, GMO Internet, just announced they will start paying part of the worker’s salaries in bitcoin. The company operates in a wide range of internet-related business, from finance to advertising. They decided to start paying employees up to 100,000 yen (which is something around $900) monthly using bitcoin, starting in 5 weeks.
“Employees can receive salaries by Bitcoin if they want to,” said the company’s spokeswoman, Harumi Ishii. “We hope to improve our own literacy of virtual currency by actually using it”, she added.
There are around 4,000 employees who will have the chance to choose to get paid (part of their salaries) on bitcoins.
Bitcoin prices have extraordinary surged this year, from less than $1,000 in January to $17,000 this week.
