Redbook Index is an economic Index which measures the sales-weighted year-over-year sales growth of large general retailers. It is a weekly release by the Redbook Research Inc., a publisher of statistics and analysis about the US retail market. The sample used to calculate the Index is very large, about 9,000 stores and is very representative about trends in consumer spending and the growth of retail sales. Higher than expected readings are positive for the US Dollar, showing strong retail sales and consumer spending, leading to a higher number of gross domestic product (GDP).
