Japan Wage Growth

The Japanese Wage Growth index tracks the changes in average wage levels every month versus the same month a year ago and takes into account average cash earnings plus special cash items. The data is derived from companies with more than four employees. The statistic is calculated monthly by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan.

In May 2017, average cash earnings rose by 0.7% versus the same month the previous year and beat consensus estimates of 0.4%. Historically wage growth reached an all-time high of 35.02% in July 1974 and an all-time low of -7.1% in June 2009.
