Japan Unemployment Rate

The Japanese Unemployment Rate measures the number of unemployed people currently looking for a job as a percentage of the total number of people that are labor capable. The statistic is published monthly by the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

In May 2017, the Japanese unemployment rate rose to 3.1% versus 2.8% the previous month, exceeding consensus estimates of 2.8%. Historically the unemployment rate hit an all-time high of 5.5% in June 2002 and an all-time low of 1% in November 1968.
