Japan Small Business Sentiment

The Japanese Small Business Sentiment tracks data from around 220,000 private companies with capital over 20 million JPY. The companies are contacted by email and are requested to express their expectations and views on current and expected economic trends. The index ranges from -100 to 100. A reading above 0 indicates confidence, whereas 0 or below 0 indicates no change or lower expectations respectively. The statistic is published quarterly by the Bank of Japan.

At the end of Q2 2017 the Japanese Small Business Sentiment index increased to 7 versus 5 in Q1 2017. Historically the index reached an all-time high in the third quarter of 1973 and a record low of -60 in the fourth quarter of 1998.
