Japan Industrial Production

The industrial production index is an economic indicator that tracks the output change of the industrial sector each month versus the same month the previous year. The index takes into account subsector outputs like manufacturing, mining and utilities. The statistic is published monthly by the Japanese Ministry of Economy Trade & Industry.

In May 2017, the Japanese industrial production increased by 6.5% versus the same month the previous year, missing the consensus estimates of 6.8% by 0.3 percentage points. Historically industrial production rose the most by 30% in February 1960 and fell the most by – 37.18 in February 2009.
