Core Inflation Rate

The Japanese Core Inflation Rate index is derived from the prices of a consumer basket of goods that excludes fresh food prices. The index tracks the changes in the prices consumers pay for the goods listed in the basket. The statistic is published every month by the Statistics Bureau if Japan.

 Japanese Core Inflation Rate

In May 2017, the Japanese Core Inflation Rate increased 0.4% year on year in line with consensus estimates, whereas the previous month increased 0.3% year on year. The actual figure beat the consensus estimates of 0.3%. Historically core inflation hit an all-time high of 24.7% in October 1974 and an all-time low of -2.4% in August of 2009.
