Consumer Confidence

The Japanese Consumer Confidence index is derived from direct visit questionnaires from around 4,700 households that consist of more than two persons. The data collected covers consumer livelihood perceptions, income growth, employment and spending willingness. The index is then calculated as an average of the four areas. A number above 50 indicates optimism whereas 50 or below 50 indicates neutrality or lack of confidence respectively. The statistic is published by the Japanese Cabinet Office every month.
