Capacity Utilization

The Japanese capacity utilization rate is a relative measure that compares the current production utilization rate, versus the benchmarked year.  The calculation is estimated from by dividing the quantity of production by the quantity of production capacity and provides an indication for the operating state of the manufacturing industry. The statistic is published by the Japanese Ministry of Economy every month.

In May 2017, the Japanese capacity utilization rate decreased by -4.13 to 99.8 from 104.1 a month earlier. The index reached a historical high of 137.5 in November 1968 and a historical low of 69.3 in February 2009.
