Unemployment Rate

The Italian Unemployment Rate measures the number of unemployed people currently looking for a job as a percentage of the total number of people that are labor capable. The statistic is published by The National Institute of Statistics (Istat) every month.

In May 2017, the Italian unemployment rate increased to 11.3% versus 11.1% in April, missing the consensus estimate of 11.5%. The unemployment rate reached a historical low of 5.7% in April 2007 and a historical high of 13% in November 2014.
