The Japanese Inflation Rate or consumer price index (CPI) is tracking the price changes of a basket of goods and services that households purchase. The number is calculated monthly versus the same month a year ago with a specific year selected as a base. The statistic is published monthly by the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

In May 2017, inflation rose by 0.4% year on year missing the consensus estimates of 0.5%. Historically inflation rose the most by 24.9% in February 1974 and fell the most by -2.5% in October 2009.
