Retail Sales YoY

The German Retail Sales MoM index depicts a combined figure of retail goods and service sales of the current month versus the same month a year ago. The index is characterized by seasonality and is considered as an economic health indicator. The index is published monthly by the Federal Statistical Office.

Retail Sales increased by 4.8% in May 2017 versus the same month a year ago beating the consensus estimate of 2.5%. Historically the index reached a historical low of – 7.8% in February 2009 and a historical high of 9.7% in February 2009.
