Consumer Confidence

The German Consumer Climate index is derived from direct questionnaires from around 2,000 individuals above the age of 13. The data collected covers income expectations, savings and spending willingness. The index value ranges from -100 to 100. A number above 0 indicates optimism whereas 0 or below 0 indicates neutrality or lack of confidence respectively. The statistic is published by the GFK Group monthly.

In July 2017, the Consumer Climate Index rose 10.6 versus 10.4 the previous month, representing an increase of around 2%. The July number missed consensus estimates of 10.4. The index reached an all-time high of 16.8 in March 2001and a record low of -3.5 in March 2003.
