Business Confidence

The German Business Climate Index tracks 7,000 firms through phone surveys, in sectors like manufacturing, retail, real estate construction and wholesaling. The percentage of optimistic versus the percentage of pessimistic executives is taken into account in order to extract the index value with a base year 2005. The index varies between -100 to 100, with figures above zero indicating optimism and figures below zero indicating negative sentiment. The index is published monthly by the IFO institute.

In June 2017, the index increased to 115.1 from 114.6 the previous month, representing an increase of 0.436%.  The actual figure in June beat the consensus estimates of 114.4. Historically the yield reached an all-time high of 115.1 in June 2017 and an all-time low of 83.5 in March 2009.
