Current Account to GDP is a measure of international competitiveness. A higher ratio indicates an economy with current account surplus whereas a lower ratio indicates an economy with current account deficit, which usually means strong imports, high consumption and low savings. Current Account to GDP reached an all-time high of 2.7% in 2000 and an all-time low of -4.2% in 1981. The figure is published annually by Statistics Canada.
